APRÍ vs Vuori sportswear comparison — lyocell versus synthetic fabric training tops

APRÍ and Vuori both sit at the premium end of the activewear market. Both have sustainability credentials. Both are aimed at men who want to wear their training gear into the rest of the day. If you're deciding between them, here's what actually differs — fabrics, anti-odour technology, certifications, price, and which brand suits which kind of training.

The core difference: natural fibre vs synthetic

The most fundamental difference between APRÍ and Vuori is the fabric philosophy. APRÍ's men's training range is built on lyocell — a natural fibre made from wood pulp that absorbs moisture, resists odour naturally, and doesn't shed microplastics. Vuori's signature DreamKnit fabric is a polyester-based proprietary blend — synthetic, fast-drying, and microplastic-shedding with every wash.

Neither choice is wrong. They perform differently and suit different training priorities.

Fabrics compared

APRÍ Vuori
Core training fabric TENCEL™ Lyocell (natural, wood-pulp derived) DreamKnit (polyester-based proprietary blend)
Performance fabric Polyamide/elastane (leggings, shorts) Meta Perform (synthetic), Ponto (recycled polyester)
Microplastic shedding No (lyocell is natural fibre) Yes (polyester sheds microplastics)
Moisture management Absorbs into fibre — less clammy Wicks to surface — faster drying
Natural fibres available Yes — lyocell core range, organic cotton Partial — EcoVero in select pieces

Vuori does use EcoVero (Lenzing's sustainable viscose) in some pieces, and recycled polyester in their Ponto Performance line. These are genuine sustainability improvements over virgin synthetics — but the core DreamKnit fabric that defines the brand is still polyester.

Anti-odour technology

This is where the gap is clearest.

APRÍ uses two proprietary technologies: APRÍshield™ (NordShield, 99.9% effectiveness after 30 washes in lyocell and cotton products) and APRÍtech™ (HeiQ Mint, 94%+ after 20 washes in polyamide products). Both are plant-derived, free from silver and PFAS, and OEKO-TEX certified. Every APRÍ garment has anti-odour treatment.

Vuori does not publicise specific anti-odour technology or verified wash-durability figures for odour resistance. Most premium activewear at this price point either uses silver-based treatments or relies on fabric properties alone — neither of which maintains the effectiveness that plant-based treatments like NordShield deliver over a full season.

For men who've experienced training gear that smells regardless of how often it's washed — this is the most practical difference between the two brands.

How APRÍshield™ and APRÍtech™ work

Sustainability credentials

Vuori holds B Corp certification — a verified standard requiring environmental and social performance across operations, not just in product claims. That's a meaningful credential that applies to the whole business.

APRÍ holds OEKO-TEX Standard 100 across its range — every component of every finished garment independently tested for harmful substances. The manufacturing is in Portugal, with shorter supply chains than most global activewear brands.

Both brands have genuine credentials. Vuori's B Corp certification covers operations more broadly; APRÍ's OEKO-TEX certification is more specific to what's in the garment itself.

Price

Both brands sit at the premium end of the market with comparable price points for t-shirts and training tops. Vuori's range is wider, with more silhouettes and colourways at various price points. APRÍ's range is more focused.

Who each brand suits

Choose APRÍ if: You train regularly and want natural fabric performance — less clammy, better temperature regulation — combined with anti-odour technology that you can verify will still be working after 30 washes. You care that your training clothes aren't shedding microplastics. You want OEKO-TEX certification on the finished garment.

Choose Vuori if: You prioritise fast-drying synthetic performance and the DreamKnit feel, or you want a wider variety of silhouettes and styles. The B Corp certification matters to you as a signal of overall brand accountability. You're doing high-intensity interval training where maximum moisture evacuation speed is the priority.

Both brands are meaningfully better than most of what's available at this price point. The choice between them comes down to whether natural fibre performance and verified anti-odour durability outweigh the benefits of faster-drying synthetics and a broader catalogue.
