APRÍ Sportswear Review: What It Is, What It Does Well, and Where the Trade-Offs Are

APRÍ is a Scandinavian sportswear brand built around lyocell fabric and two proprietary anti-odour technologies. This is an honest assessment of the range — what it is, what it does well, where the trade-offs are, and who it's most likely to suit.

What APRÍ makes

The APRÍ range covers training t-shirts, polo shirts, performance leggings, sports bras, shorts, hoodies, and sweat shorts. The men's range is centred on lyocell for tops and cotton for casualwear, with performance polyamide for shorts and bottoms. The women's range uses lyocell for the cropped tee, and performance polyamide for leggings and sports bras.

Every garment carries anti-odour treatment — either APRÍshield™ or APRÍtech™ depending on the fabric. Everything is manufactured in Portugal.

The fabric

The lyocell in APRÍ garments is Lenzing TENCEL™ — produced from sustainably sourced wood pulp in a closed-loop process that recaptures 99% of processing solvents. Unlike polyester, it doesn't shed microplastics with every wash, biodegrades at end of life, and manages moisture through absorption rather than surface repulsion.

What lyocell does in training: it absorbs moisture into the fibre structure rather than repelling it to the surface. The result is more comfortable moisture management — less clammy, less clingy — and better temperature regulation through variable-intensity sessions.

What it doesn't do: lyocell doesn't dry as fast as polyester or polyamide. For moderate to high-intensity training, longer sessions, and anything that takes you from the gym into the rest of the day, it performs well. For pure sprint-interval work where maximum drying speed is the only priority, polyester evacuates moisture faster.

Lyocell vs Polyester: the full comparison

The anti-odour technology

Most sportswear uses silver-based anti-odour treatments that work initially but wash out within 15–20 cycles. After that, the fabric retains odour regardless of washing frequency — a problem most regular gym-goers have experienced.

APRÍ uses two technologies that work differently:

APRÍshield™ (NordShield, in lyocell and cotton products): 99.9% anti-odour effectiveness after 30 washes. Based on wood extractives from Nordic forestry — biodegradable, no silver, no PFAS, no zinc, OEKO-TEX certified.

APRÍtech™ (HeiQ Mint, in polyamide products): 94%+ effectiveness after 20 washes at 30°C. Based on mint extract — plant-derived, no heavy metals, independently verified.

In practice, garments stay genuinely fresh through a full season of regular training rather than gradually accumulating a smell that washing can't remove.

Certifications

APRÍ holds OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification across its range — every component of the finished garment tested and verified to contain no harmful substances. This applies to the finished product, not just the raw material.

What OEKO-TEX actually tests for

Construction

Flatlock stitching throughout the training range — seams that sit flush against skin rather than raised ridges that chafe during repetitive movement. The fit is technical without being compressive: structured enough for training, clean enough for daily wear.

Where the trade-offs are

Care requirements. Lyocell performs best washed at 30°C on a gentle cycle, without fabric softener, and air-dried where possible. Not fragile — but it rewards straightforward care that extends garment life significantly.

Range size. The APRÍ catalogue is focused rather than expansive. Fewer silhouettes and colourways than Gymshark or Lululemon. The brand has prioritised depth over breadth.

Price point. APRÍ sits at the premium end of the market. The cost reflects TENCEL™ Lyocell fabric, NordShield and HeiQ Mint technologies, and Portuguese manufacturing. On a per-wear basis over two or three years the value proposition is strong — but the upfront cost is higher than synthetic alternatives.

Who it suits

APRÍ suits people who train regularly, care about what their clothes are made of, and have experienced the frustration of anti-odour sportswear that stops working within a season. It's a strong fit for moderate to high-intensity training, everyday wear that moves from gym to daily life, and people who want their activewear to not add to the microplastics problem.

It's not the right choice for the lowest price point, the fastest-drying fabric for elite interval training, or the widest variety of styles. If those are the priorities, there are better options elsewhere.

For the specific combination of natural fabric performance, long-lasting plant-based anti-odour, OEKO-TEX certification, and European manufacturing — APRÍ is genuinely differentiated from most of what's available at this price point.
